The major in Statistics and Data Science consists of ten courses. No course may be counted for more than one of the three areas below.

Application and Communication

Students must complete one of the following two-course sequences:

STA 334 STATISTICAL CONSULTING and STA 496 STATISTICAL RESEARCH

COM 495 RESEARCH SEMINAR/COM 496 RESEARCH SEMINAR and STA 496 STATISTICAL RESEARCH

Any approved course at the 300 level or higher, in statistics or another discipline, and STA 496 STATISTICAL RESEARCH

STA 497-498 HONORS STUDY

For the application and communication component of the major, students are encouraged to consider topics pertaining to their Integrative Pathway or Center Certificate Program. All students are strongly encouraged to participate in a summer internship or Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), if possible. Students considering graduate study in statistics or in quantitative areas of other fields are strongly encouraged to complete MAT 301.
