JS 235 TO HELL AND BACK

An examination of the role of the journey to Hell in human experience. The course compares the descriptions of the journey in poems and stories from various periods and cultures. Emphasis on whether the journey is an accurate description of the human experience. Primary texts include Virgil's Aeneid, Dante's Inferno, and Primo Levi's Survival in Auschwitz.
