ITL 403 ITALIAN MIDDLE AGES & FILMS

From Game of Thrones to Sabrina, from Dante’s Inferno and Assassin’s Creed, popular culture is fascinated with the Middle Ages. Students will examine how films and television series feed upon the texts and the stories of the Medieval times. The course explores the search for a hero, epic battles, sex and love, ironic reinterpretation, the Crusades, the Arthurian romances, the afterlife, and the racialized Other in selected texts from the Medieval and Early Modern period.
