ECO 451 THE FUTURE OF MONEY

Currency has changed its form throughout history: from the Gold Standard to the Bretton Woods system, where the dollar was considered as good as gold, to today’s mix of “floating” and “fixed” currencies. This seminar discusses the nature of cryptocurrency (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.) and whether it is a fad or the next step in the evolution of money. Related concepts such as Digital Currency, NFTs, and Blockchain will be explored. The aim is for students to build a solid foundational knowledge of these concepts as they become increasingly integrated in our financial systems.
