BIO 209 CELLS AND MOLECULES

A detailed study of biological processes at the level of cells and molecules. The course emphasizes current topics to explore fundamental structures and functions, including energy and information flow in animals, microbes, plants, and viruses; evolution of cellular and organismal structures; cell metabolism, division, differentiation, and signaling; and genomics and systems biology. The laboratory will include investigative experiments to study cellular processes, discussion of primary research articles, quantitative reasoning, and communication skills.

Course will consist of one lecture section and two or more laboratory sections.

Prerequisite

BIO 120 (any course) or BOT 105; CHM 103 or CHM 107 (or concurrently)

Corequisite

Registration is also required in BIO 209L.

Enrollment Limit

Enrollment limited to 16 students per laboratory section.
