Learning Goals in the Music, Sound and Technology Major

The major in Music, Sound, and Technology offers a focused core curriculum that provides a foundational understanding of ways that technology can interact with music making and sound. In consultation with an adviser, students personalize their course of study, explore connections to other disciplines through electives, and build their skills as musicians.

In the course of study at Connecticut College, Music, Sound, and Technology majors will:

  • Understand key concepts pertaining to audio signal processing, mixing, recording, acoustics, and programming while using common tools for music production and analysis
  • Develop a personal vehicle of expression through performance and the act of creating 
    original music
  • Understand musics in their cultural and historical contexts
  • Engage with music by building foundational skills and applying a range of theoretical lenses to diverse repertoires
  • Acquire critical perspectives that embrace interdisciplinary approaches across constructed stylistic boundaries and classifications
