Mathematics Major

The mathematics major consists of six required courses, three electives, and one follow-up course.

Required Courses

Students must complete six required courses:

MAT 210	DISCRETE MATHEMATICS	4
MAT 212	MULTIVARIABLE CALCULUS	4
MAT 226	LINEAR ALGEBRA	4
MAT 301	REAL ANALYSIS I	4
MAT 303	ABSTRACT ALGEBRA I	4
MAT 495	SEMINAR IN MATHEMATICS	2
	or
MAT 497	HONORS STUDY	4
MAT 498	HONORS STUDY	4

Electives

Students must complete three electives:

One mathematics course at the 200 level or higher
One mathematics course at the 300 level or higher
One mathematics course at the 300 level or higher, or STA 315

Follow-Up Course

Students must complete one of the following courses:

MAT 309	COMPLEX ANALYSIS	4
MAT 402	REAL ANALYSIS II	4
MAT 404	ABSTRACT ALGEBRA II	4
STA 317	MATHEMATICAL STATISTICS	4

All mathematics majors are strongly encouraged to take at least one course in computer science. Students planning to attend graduate school in mathematics or statistics should consult with their adviser to develop an appropriate course of study.
