Understanding Buried Cities of Vesuvius An interdisciplinary investigation of Pompeii and Herculaneum, using methods from archaeology, geology, art history, and literary analysis to understand daily life in ancient Rome, the natural history of the volcanic eruption of 79 C.E., and the cultural meaning of these sites since their discovery in the 18th century.
