SPA 445 LIVING IN SPANGLISH

Spanglish refers to both the linguistic mixing of Spanish and English, as well as experiences of living in cultures attached to both Spanish and English in the United States.  Parting from the idea that language is a critical part of identity formation, the course examines Spanglish from both of these perspectives.  Students will look at "living in Spanglish" through sociolinguistic and critical race lenses.  The course pays particular attention to intersections between race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, and ability in the study of lives lived and spoken in Spanglish.
