MRC 201 THEMATIC INQUIRY

This Thematic Inquiry is organized into a series of two- and three-class units with associated readings, active-learning experiences, and assignments.  The units include the following:  rhetoric, narrative, metaphor; media power, privilege, access, and exclusion with regard to race, gender, sexuality, class, religion, identity, and other social formations and constructions; information, power, and perception across the ages; mass media ownership and accumulation post-1980; social media across the spectrum; community partner learning; and the academy as knowledge-producer and -communicator.  Within this framework, students will be expected to develop their animating questions and to propose their Global/Local Engagement.
