FYS 100P PERFORM THE WORLD YOU WANT

How does perception, protest, and performance come together as a political as well as creative act?  Performance artists (comics, rock stars, dancers, painters, theater-makers, or wordsmiths) challenge our definitions of who we are and why we are.  The course studies 20th- and 21st-century performance artists who use or have used their art-making as a point of departure and a disruption. Students do not need to have performance experience of any kind to succeed in this course. Students do need to value curiosity, humor, play, and radicalism as useful and sometimes necessary tools to make change.
