ENG 181 LIT ACTIVISM AND SOCIAL MEDIA

An examination of conventional news, social media (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumbir), and literary texts ("Twitter novels", poems with YouTube videos), the course explores the changing role of media in social and political movements around the world. Topics include the Arab Spring, Occupy, #YesAllWomen, and Black Lives Matter; authors include Margaret Atwood, Mohja Kahf, Roger Sedarat, and Claudia Rankine.
