ENG 162 NARRATIVE MEDICINE

A new field that has become part of medical training, narrative medicine considers how narrative can serve as a form of care.  Approaching the topic as a literary practice, this course considers how reading and telling stories can be therapeutic, interpreting stories can be diagnostic, and literary empathy can model relations of patient care. Authors may include Henry James, Anatole Broyard, Abraham Verghese, Ian McEwan, Jhumpa Lahiri, Lori Moore, Aleksander Hemon, and Alice Munro.
